Marketing Internship – Summer

Projects include but are not limited to:

  • Advertising:  Arranging advertising with print and broadcast media, coordination of advertising production, calling to renew and generate new accounts.
  • Sponsorship: Maintaining relationships with current sponsors and securing new sponsors for the Festival and Trail of Terror.  Cold-calling will be required. 
  • Event Planning:  Planning the Festival’s special event weekends such as Highland Games, Chocolate and Wine Festival, 5K Run, Longbow Competition, Pet Fest, Wine Auction and Radio promos.
  • Media Relations:  Preparing marketing materials including press kit, newsletter, playbill, media kits, contacting media and press releases.  Making calls to the local press to pitch stories and invite them to the festival. 
  • Promotion:  Working with Festival promotions and event planning such as giveaways, promotional pieces, secondary events, radio interviews, and pre-season promotions. Publicity events are included (parades, festivals, county fairs, press party, character appearances, etc.)
  • Social Media: Help to grow our social media base and engagement to help spread visibility and awareness. Creating and incorporating a content calendar in conjunction with festival events calendar to help promote events, promotions, artisans, entertainers and community involvement.
  • Miscellaneous:  Helping to maintain marketing databases, trade ticket distribution, and incentive program.

Qualifications: Strong oral and written communication skills, multi-tasking, organizational skills, outgoing, good computer knowledge with Microsoft Office, excellent interpersonal skills, ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously and respond well to pressure and deadlines

Experience and Education: Experience in public relations, social media, marketing, customer service and event planning a plus.

Hours:

  • Full-time Seasonal May – October
  • Office Hours: Monday-Friday 8 hours/day
  • Some evenings and weekends will be required pre show: June – August
  • 6 days/week including weekends during show: August – October

Public Relations Internship – Summer

Projects include but are not limited to:

  • Media Relations:  Preparing marketing materials including; writing press releases, contacting local media and creating a press kit.  Work with local media on site for TV and Radio interviews, Photographers, etc.  Check-in and communicate with the Media gate, on a daily basis. 
  • E-Newsletters / database management: Oversee and manage local email database. Includes segmenting audiences and identify/implement strategic eBlast promotions.  Develop strategies for email gathering and optimizing eBlast stats. Create and write email blasts and newsletters.  
  • Blog: Work with staff, entertainers & artisans to solicit material for the Festival blog. Responsible for the overall management of the blog (WordPress platform), which includes creation of new blogs, managing comments, as well as industry outreach to incorporate guest bloggers. Live blogging from local events and leveraging social media to drive traffic to blog.
  • Facebook: Grow our Facebook fan base and engagement to help spread visibility and awareness. Creating and incorporating a content calendar in conjunction with festival events calendar to help promote events, promotions, artisans, entertainers and community involvement.
  • Twitter: Grow base of followers on Twitter to help spread visibility and awareness. Leverage online fan base while doing targeted outreach to drive attendance to events and help promote the festival through strategic use of hastags, trackable linking and targeted search. Other responsibilities include live Tweeting for events and promos, as well as growing online partnerships and reputation management. 
  • LinkedIn: Increase followers of company to help spread visibility and awareness of the festival.  
  • YouTube: Work with departments to obtain videos for YouTube channel. 
  • Pinterest:  increase followers of our business page, create content to increase ticket sales and traffic to our website. 
  • Copywriting:  Write copy for promotional material, website, social media etc.  
  • Complaints/customer service:  Help handle Renaissance Festival and Trail of Terror complaints from social media, email, and call-ins.  Create a database, work with department heads and bring problems to an ending solution.  
  • Secondary Events / Community Outreach: Help with creating an event calendar and organize all aspects of the secondary events, including entertainment, booth set up, etc.
  • Theme Weekend Coordination:  Help with planning the Festival’s special event weekends such as Highland Games, Chocolate and Wine Festival, 5K Run, Longbow Competition, Pet Fest, & Fairy House Competition.  Securing sponsors, vendors and competitors for all of the weekend events.

Personnel & Vendor Relations Internship – Summer

  • Detailed contribution with Personnel, Vendor Relations and Multi-level Management Structure
  • Extensive telephone work:  Communication with current, former, and potential personnel & Returning Vendors
  • Interview/hire prospective employees & fill out new hire paperwork (I9’s, W4’s, payroll)
  • Assist with orientation, training, scheduling and supervision of CKC employees/ Groups
  • Payroll:  Assist with payroll problems; update employee payroll information
  • Revise employee directory and complete daily/ weekly lists
  • Assist with check-in, placement, and performance of employees
  • Maintain detailed and organized files.
  • All aspects of Information requests; Interview/ Appointment Scheduling; Reminders; Project lists
  • Track vendor payments & deadlines
  • Create and organize new vendor files (electronically and hard copy).
  • Coordinate and update vendor databases.
  • Develop and prepare regular reports on the status of contracts and miscellaneous forms.
  • Provide support with projects or weekly lists
  • Effective Individual Time Management in correlation to deadlines

Food & Beverage Internship – Summer

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the food and beverage department.
  • Works with the Director of Operations to maintain work lists Monday – Friday.
  • Inspect the cleaning of the food & beverage booths at festival including the utensils.
  • Plan for and purchase food & beverage for the food program.
  • Inspect the food & beverage storage facilities are clean & organized.
  • Maintain required records including menu, recipes, inventory, booth accounting, work lists, income/expense, etc.
  • Plan and review menus; products, procedures, portions, presentation and pricing.
  • Research & purchase food service equipment.
  • Schedule the food & beverage equipment installations such as soda machines, trailers etc.
  • Evaluate & ensure festival food experience is satisfactory.
  • Keep records of inventory, supplies and purchases.
  • Monitor and compare food & beverage sales regularly.
  • Ensure food & beverage program follows proper sanitation procedures.
  • Work with the MN Dept. of Health & Dept. of Agriculture to comply with regulations & work orders. 
  • Ensure safety standards are maintained while cleaning or food is being cooked.
  • Contributes in management of food service employees, including cooks, & food preparers.
  • Assist in training and monitoring work quality and safety requirements of employees.

Certificates required: Serve Safety Food Manager Certificate & Alcohol Awareness 

Experience & Education: Associate’s degree in culinary arts, food service management or a similar field or an equivalent combination of education and experience,  and substituting one additional year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education. References required.

Skills Required: Strong communication skills, leadership skills, organizational skills, computer proficiency, ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously, respond well to pressure and deadlines, as well as self-motivated and enthusiastic.

Licenses/Registrations: Minnesota Driver’s License; safe driving record; and proof of insurability

Physical Demands: Work requires sufficient physical strength, long periods of standing, walking and the ability to life 40 pounds repeatedly.

Operations Internship – Summer

Seasonal – Full-Time

Grounds Crew

Responsible for garden prep, fertilizing, planting, mowing, weeding, trimming, watering, cleaning, maintenance and landscape projects as assigned.

Food Crew

Responsible for unloading deliveries, loading returns, distributing product, restocking product, cleaning buildings, cleaning equipment, minor construction, painting, equipment assembly and sign installation as assigned.

 

Temporary – Weekends

Area Supervisor

Responsible for the operations of a food area, this can be any where from 11-18 food/beverage booths per area.  Supervises and manages Inventory Specialists, Personnel Area Liaisons, Runners, Booth Supervisors, Booth workers/Volunteers, and others working in the area.  Maintains appropriate staffing and employee motivation within the area.

Inventory Specialist

Responsible for the inventory of a food area, this can be any where from 11-18 food/beverage booths per area.  Supervises and manages Runners.

Personnel Area Liaison

Responsible for helping manage the customer service of groups and personnel in a food area, this can be any where from 11-18 food/beverage booths per area. Responsible for supplying change to booths throughout the day.

Maintenance Worker

Responsible for opening 11-18 booths, storage facilities and preheating equipment by 7:00 am. Responsible for maintaining appearance and work-ability of all food and beverage booths in area. Helps with troubleshooting any problems with equipment, signs, structure, etc.

 

Part-Time Positions

Booth Supervisor

  • Responsible for the successful operation and supervision of the booth
  • Train, manage, monitor, encourage, & correct the booth employees
  • Provide outstanding service to our customers
  • Provide outstanding food & beverage quality, reasonable portions, & fantastic presentation
  • Work with employees to complete the booth work and to assure the quality of the product sold
  • Work with the Distribution Specialist to make sure the booth is stocked
  • Motivate & encourage the employees to be effective & efficient
  • Report to & communicate with the Area Supervisor & PAL
  • Train & maintain sanitation in the booth according to the MN Dept of Health standards
  • Meet or exceed the booth sales goal
  • Obtain or decrease the booth labor goal
  • Work with the PAL to set staffing levels to obtain the booth labor goal
  • Work with the Area on product quality, portioning, & presentation
  • Work with the Inventory Specialist to decrease the booth accounting variance
  • Responsible for coordinating breaks & communicating with the PAL
  • Complete employee evaluations
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Area Supervisor or the PAL

Customer Service Representative

  • Responsible for all aspects of the front of the booth
  • Provide outstanding service to our customer
  • Take the customer orders
  • Complete the cash transaction
  • Provide the customers good quality products
  • Keep the cash box organized & the quantity of bills reasonable
  • Hawk & encourage customers out front to purchase products from the booth
  • Keep counter & front area clean, wipe down the counter frequently
  • Stock & clean condiment & utensil containers
  • Change front counter product display 3 – 5 times a day
  • Dispose of garbage frequently
  • Provide customers with Festival information
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Booth Supervisor

Food Prep/Cook

  • Responsible for all aspects of the back of the booth
  • Provide outstanding food & beverage quality, reasonable portions, & fantastic presentation
  • Cook and prepare food according to booth procedures
  • Monitor temps, portions, and product presentation
  • Anticipate product needs and communicate with Booth Supervisor or Distribution Specialist
  • Maintain sanitation in the booth according to the MN Dept of Health standards
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Booth Supervisor

Runners

  • Work Hours 7:00 am – 8:30 pm Festival Days
  • Responsible for delivering products to food & beverage booths
  • Anticipate the product needs of the food & beverage booths
  • Assist with documenting the product delivered to each booth daily
  • Communicate with booth supervisors and inventory specialists about product inventory levels
  • Responsible for garbage pick-up in, around, and behind booths, commissary & trailers
  • Go to other areas to obtain product needed
  • Assist the Inventory Specialist with both Saturday & Sunday inventories & smart boxes
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Inventory Specialist or the Area Supervisor

Security & Traffic Control

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival is hiring event security and traffic control personnel.  Available positions include site patrol, entrance guards, parking/traffic directors, and overnight security.

  • Providing security/health assistance to patrons and participants at the festival
  • Ensure that all individuals entering site or backstage areas have a valid ticket or employee badge
  • Ensure that vehicle traffic arriving or departing from the festival does so in a safe and orderly manner
  • Assist motorists with parking their vehicles safely and in designated parking spaces
  • See that patrons and participants at the festival behave safely and appropriately, consistent with festival policies.

Executive Feast Chef/Kitchen Manager

  • Design & cost menus for the Festival events & booths such as Feast of Fantasy, Daily events, & Parties
  • Design & cost menu for the Phantom’s Feast
  • Write recipes & procedures for menu items
  • Order, receive, and inventory food & supplies
  • Provide outstanding food quality, large portions, & fantastic presentations
  • Make adjustments in menus, food quality, portions, & presentation if necessary
  • Prepare Cream Puff Filling, and Butters for the CKC food booths.
  • Prepare food for all Feasts, Breakfasts, Special Events, Weddings, and Parties on show weekends and pre show.
  • Participate in hiring the kitchen staff.
  • Train, manage, and schedule the kitchen staff.
  • Clean, prep and close down the kitchen.
  • Train & maintain sanitation in the Kitchen according to the MN Dept. of Health standards
  • Prep on Fridays for the weekend events if necessary.
  • Attend planning meetings for the events listed above.
  • Code vendor invoices accurately.

Qualifications: The ability to manage in a diverse environment with focus on client and customer services is essential to success in this role.

Experience and Education: Previous experience with control food and labor cost, menu development, and pricing and development of culinary team preferred. The ideal candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree or related culinary degree with two or more years of industry and culinary management experience.

Hours:

  • Part-time seasonal, June-October
  • Weekends: August – October (5:00 am – 8:00 pm)

Pay: BOQ

Attire: Chef Coat (provided)

Feast Sous Chef

  • Report to the Executive Chef
  • Prepare Chicken Salad, Dips, Cream Puff Filling, and Butters for the CKC food booths.
  • Prepare food for all Feasts (Festival & Halloween), Breakfasts, Special Events, Weddings, and Parties on show weekends and pre show.
  • Clean, prep and close down the kitchen.
  • Prep on Fridays for the weekend events if necessary.
  • Attend planning meetings for the events listed above.

Feast Cook

  • Report to the Executive Chef
  • Prepare Chicken Salad, Dips, Cream Puff Filling, Butters, etc for the CKC food booths.

Entertainment Auditions

Audition Dates will be from 10 AM – 2 PM on May 5th, 12th, and 19th on the Minnesota Renaissance Festival grounds. Sign up is required.  Resume and head shot requested.
