August 19, 2020

To Our Amazing Patrons & Participants,

We are profoundly disappointed to announce that the 2020 Minnesota Renaissance Festival will not be taking place this year.

We understand the impact of this decision on so many wonderful artisans, performers, participants, volunteers, and countless families seeking a place to celebrate and enjoy a touch of normalcy that our yearly festival tradition brings.

We worked hard the last five months to develop a plan and mitigation measures which we firmly believe would have resulted in a safe and healthy Renaissance Festival. However, it is clear that the current State directives will not change significantly in time to allow the Festival to open this fall. Although we disagree with the current State directives that prevent a spacious outdoor venue from opening, we recognize the difficulty of the State government’s task. We share their goal of keeping Minnesotans safe and healthy.

We will continue to have events that can be produced within the current directives such as the reimagined incredible FEAST OF FANTASY taking place the next 7 weekends. And the oh so spooky PHANTOM’S FEAST following in October.

We will be announcing a brand new very exciting event in the days ahead. We promise that you will not have to wait long for your turkey leg!

The Minnesota Renaissance Festival will return in 2021 and we will be celebrating our 50th Anniversary and promise that it will be the grandest Renaissance Festival in all the realm.

2021 will be here before we know it and 2020 tickets will be honored in 2021.

  • 2021 Season: August 21st – October 3; Weekends (Saturday & Sunday) + Labor Day and Festival Friday October 1, 2021

We’re extremely grateful and wish to express our thanks to our Artisans, Entertainers, Corporate Partners, Sponsors, Staff, Vendors, Volunteers, Scott County and Valued Patrons and appreciate your support and commitment to the continuation of this great Minnesota family tradition.  We sincerely appreciate our Renaissance Festival Family and look forward to seeing you all again in 2021.

Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by COVID-19 and we are here to help answer any questions you may have.

Additional information will be available on our web-page in the coming weeks with links to questions and answers, exciting news about 2021 and most importantly the highly requested information on how to support our incredible artisans.

As previously announced, Mid America Festivals decided to change the dates of our 2020 Festival to September 5, 2020 thru October 4, 2020 (weekends plus Labor Day), in order to provide more time for health experts, scientists, State officials, and all of us to monitor the spread and containment of COVID-19 in Minnesota.

We want nothing more than to celebrate our 50th anniversary with all of you but we will not engage in any activity that is contrary to Minnesota State directives and it is our belief and hope that the amount of people testing positive, the severity of the cases, and the advancements in treatment will trend in the correct direction in Minnesota and that Governor Walz will issue a new Executive Order resulting in significantly more people being permitted to attend outdoor events in Minnesota.

We will keep you updated as we move forward; in the meantime, we thank you for your loyalty and continued support.

Sincerely,

Jim Peterson

July 2020

Hear Ye, Hear Ye, Mid-America Festivals is pleased to make the following Royal Proclamations!!!!!!

We have extended our lease and we will stay in our current location in Shakopee, MN at least through 2021.

We continue to plan for our 50th Anniversary and we are hopeful that we will be able to celebrate together at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.

Currently, outdoor events in the State of Minnesota are limited to 250 people. We are having discussions with Minnesota State officials regarding the 2020 season.

In order to provide more time for health experts, scientists, State officials, and all of us to monitor the spread and containment of COVID-19 in Minnesota, Mid America Festivals decided to change the dates of our 2020 Festival to September 5, 2020 thru October 4, 2020 (weekends plus Labor Day).

We have developed a draft Preparedness Plan as part of our ongoing efforts to initiate mitigation measures and protocols for 2020 to provide a safe environment for patrons and participants. A working draft of our Preparedness Plan will be shared in the near future.

We will not engage in any activity that is contrary to Minnesota State directives and it is our belief and hope that the amount of people testing positive, the severity of the cases, and the advancements in treatment will trend in the correct direction in Minnesota and that Governor Walz will issue a new Executive Order resulting in significantly more people being permitted to attend outdoor events in Minnesota.

All events of fewer than 250 people scheduled to take place at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival prior to September 5, 2020 will take place as planned per Minnesota State Guidelines.

We Can’t Wait to Celebrate!
