2020 Mural Contest
Calling all artists! Share your creativity and help brighten our Festival for the 2020 Season!
Our annual Mural Competition has begun and we’re looking for creative painters to paint a beautiful mural that captures the spirit of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival! Your murals can include but are not limited to jousting, juggling, mermaids, fairies, dragons, unicorns, your favorite acts from the Renaissance, witches, wizards, and more! Designs must be original and painted by the person submitting the form.
All murals must be 2′ x 2′ and painted with an outdoor paint or finished with a waterproof cover. They must be painted on a weather-treated material (i.e. treated plywood). The murals will be put on display at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival and will be exposed to the elements during the duration of our 2020 season. Please write your name & age on the back bottom right corner of the mural. Upon delivery provide a copy of your registration form taped to the back.
Murals will become the property of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival once dropped off.
Once completed you may drop your murals off at the Festival Studio Office located at:

If you’re dropping off before the first weekend of the festival please call (952) 698-9553 and schedule a time to drop off.
Drop off times are:
August 10th-12th between the times of 9am & 3pm.
August 18th-20th between the times of 9am & 3pm.
First Weekend August 22nd & 23rd at the Info Booth. Your registration form MUST BE taped on the back of your mural as well as your name and age printed on the back bottom right corner.

All murals must be dropped off by August 23rd! Any murals dropped off after August 23rd will not be eligible to receive One Free Admission Ticket or Prizes. They may still be accepted and put on display if turned in after August 23rd.
Voting will begin on or before August 31st, 2020 on our Facebook page and will go through October 9th, 2020.

2020 Coloring Book Contest
Help us create a fantastic coloring book for our 5th Annual Coloring Book Competition! We’re looking for aspiring artists who want to show their creativity in a fun, intricate way!
Your design should be unique and capture the spirit of the Renaissance Festival! Submissions should be Renaissance themed and can include but are not limited to jousting, juggling, mermaids, fairies, knights, dragons, unicorns, your favorite acts from the Renaissance, witches, wizards, and more!

Anyone can enter for a chance to win! Every person who enters will receive 1 FREE Minnesota Renaissance Festival ticket for the 2020 season. We have ADULT and CHILD (12 and younger) registration forms that you can download and print.
Those who are chosen to be a part of the final Coloring Book Edition will receive 1 FREE Coloring Book.
Adult First Place winner will receive $100 cash prize and a Season Pass for the 2021 Renaissance Festival Season!
Child First Place winner will receive $50 cash prize and a Renaissance Festival Gift Bag!

2020 Theme Weekend Contest Information – Coming January 2020
Weekend 1 – Bold North Vikings Invasion
Registration at 12:15pm. Start time is at 1:00pm.
- Child (Age 12-17)
- Adult (Age 18+)
- Female (Age 18+)
Archery Tournament Rules:
- A separate tournament will run for archers strictly using a traditional longbow, other divisions can follow the equipment requirements listed above on the Registration form.
- Complimentary tickets will be given to you on the day you are competing.
- You must have some experience in this sport to be accepted in the competition.
- Tournament is of retreating distance style starting between five and fifteen yards and retreating in five yard increments to a maximum of 100 yards.
- Each archer is allowed three shots from each distance until disqualified.
- Awards will be given out to 1st, 2nd & 3rd place
- Disqualification happens when archer fails to hit the target area with one of their three shots.
- Tie-Breakers: In case of a tie, farthest distance will be selected on course with all of the remaining Each archer will be allowed one shot at this distance. Closest to the bulls eye will win the contested position. The next closest competitor will place in the next lower position.
Bocce Ball Tournament
Registration at 11:00am. Start time is at 11:30am.
Bocce Ball Tournament Rules:
- Prizes will be awarded to the 1st & 2nd place teams.
- Teams can sign-up the day of the tournament but are encouraged to send in the application in advance.
- You may sign-up as an individual, or as a team (teams are encouraged).
- Equipment is provided by MN Renaissance Festival.

Turkey Leg Trot – 5K (Sunday)
Sunday, August 18th, 2019
Race is on Sunday, August 18th, 2019 and will begin at the Front Gate Entrance of the Minnesota Renaissance Festival at the sound of the cannon! Racers will make their way on the trail around the Renaissance Festival! Making their way through twists and turns to get to the finish line!
Registration is $30 and includes FREE admission to the 2019 Renaissance Festival on the day of the race along with a t-shirt, turkey leg voucher and Woodchuck Hard Cider voucher!
*Shirt sizes will be available on a first come first serve basis.
Weekend 2 – Highland Fling

Chocolate Pie Eating Competition
Dive face first into French Silk pies provided by Baker’s Square during the Chocolate Pie Eating Contest at 3 p.m. on Shepherd’s Green. All messy eaters are welcome to participate!

Relive your wedding day all over again! Smash some cake into your significant other’s face to celebrate your life journey together. The messier the better! Those with the most enthusiastic smash will win!
Weekend 5 – Pet Fest
Weiner Dog, Corgi & Puppernickel Races

Bring your pets to Shepherd’s Green Field at 10:30am to see if they’re fit to join the Royal Court. Our new furry King & Queen will join the humans and strut their royal stuff in the 11:30am parade.
It’s like Musical Chairs but better because it’s for dogs! The fun starts at 11:00am on Shepherd’s Green Field.
Peanut Butter Licking Contest
Do you feel watched in your kitchen? Does the feel of a wet nose under your plate make you anxious? Take a break from being begged for food and let your favorite furry stalker have a snack! Visit the Shepherd’s Green Stage at 1 PM to see who can lick peanut butter the fastest!
Ugliest Dog Competition
Love your pup for what’s on the inside? Prove your dog is the ugliest in the pack for a chance to win great pet prizes at Shepherd’s Green Stage at 1:30 PM.
Doggy Dress up Contest
Think your furry friend has the best costume? Enter them in our Doggy Dress Up Contest for a chance to win pet prizes! The contest is FREE to enter and no pre-registration is required; just bring your dog and a costume to the Shepherd’s Green Stage at 3:30 PM.
Weekend 6 – Shamrocks & Shenanigans
Mashed Potato Eating Competition
We’re celebrating the end of the Irish Potato Famine 170 years later! Come smash mashed potatoes and gravy in your face in our classic Mashed Potato Eating Contest. And remember, no hands!

Weekend 7 – Oktoberfest
Lederhosen & Dirndl Costume Contest
Fasten your beer helmet, lace up your dirndl, and adjust your lederhosen! Now that you’re ready for Oktoberfest, head over to the Special Events Stage at 10am for our costume contest. Best costume will win prizes!
Patrons proud of their finely trimmed and manicured beards can enter! The most appealing beards will win prizes in the categories of Longest Beard, Grizzliest (Fullest) Beard, Most Unique Beard, Best Mustache, and Best Trimmed Beard. The competition will take place at the Special Events Stage.
Come one, come all to watch these little pups prance! Tiny Dachshunds will test their speed against other pups and win prizes from Long Dog Apparel! This is the most fun you can have on four legs. Races will be held at the Joust Track at 2pm.
Sauerkraut Eating Contest
All patrons fit for the challenge can fill their bellies with a German favorite at this competition! Bring your appetite to the Special Events Stage at 11:30am to compete and win prizes.
Stein Holding Contest
Hold your stein for as long as you can! Steins will be filled with water and contestants must hold the stein with their arm fully extended perpendicular to the body. Come to Shepherd’s Green at 10am & 3pm to participate.
Think you and your squad have game? Test your aim with Bier Pong! Held daily in the Shepherd’s Green field. Challenge your fellow fest goers to see who the true pong champion is!
Take your best swing at this favorite Oktoberfest game! Patrons can battle one another by using a wedge-shaped hammer to hit a nail into a tree stump. Come to Shepherd’s Green anytime between 11:30am-2:30pm to participate and win prizes!
